The trick of the eye...

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!! I know its a bit late but better late than never right? ^_^

A project based on the design and surface mainly focussing on the fabric itself and not on how the garment is being constructed. However, it must be in a wearable state.

Looking at optical illusions and images which trick the eye, i created my own design for screen printing my fabric, sampling the prints with different colours and different widths of the black lines on the fabric.

The whole garment was hand stitched.

Here are the final printed fabrics::
If you tilt your head and move slightly, the print itself (curvy lines) appear to move.
Printing on wider lines gives the illusion that the lines are not parallel, when in fact they are,

I also used a puff binder, allowing the print to rise and give the fabric more texture and dimension.

Completion of contemporary design

Final garment::

From the previous post (http://tsememoirs.blogspot.com/2010/12/contemporary-design.html) i had only made my 2nd toile; busy report writing and two weeks later. . . tah dah!!

The only thing that you cannot properly see on the dress is the seam lines due to the fabric colour. A catwalk show was held in the fashion studio which went really well, seeing some very creative designs within the year group.

Contemporary design

Based on modern architecture and 19th/20th century corsetry, using techniques from corsetry, with shapes and seam lines take from modern architecture.

My final design (under developed).....

Black parts using polyamide with tie silk in the centre front and back panels, corded.  Hood made with sewn on rigilene

2nd toile:-

The seams on the actual dress are too simple (therefore it is under developed) but now i am in the process of making my actual garment, using black coated cotton. The seams have changed into curvy lines at the back and front, where they meet at the side seams.

Very interesting to see how many different ways it can be worn, and not just a hood.

P.S ~ wrap up warm and be-careful of the snow!!

Some Art.

Hey everyone! hope that you are all feeling fantastic!! I went to oxford street today to get fabric, and when i went to the store, they ran out!!! >.< so annoyed, but then went round looking for other fabric which was fun :P

So digging out my portfolio and i'd found some of my art drawings! Miss life drawing and having little giggles with my college friends ^_^

Here the man was wearing a stocking (i think thats what its called) and balloons were put inside the stocking to create weird and wonderful shapes.

Bigger wardrobe perhaps??

I have way too many clothes....or maybe just a really small wardrobe?? it was like a bomb the other day when i opened it and i just had to take EVERYTHING out and re-fold my clothes! So what you think of my folding? Haha!

This is completely random but, I went out the other night and went to see Far East Movement, they are awesome! Currently listening to their new album 'Free wired', which i recommend you to check out, especially their well known song 'Like a G6' and 'If i were you (OMG)'

Here's a few pictures from the night ~ for your eyes only <3

A quick buy in Oxford St =P

The christmas lights are up and its such a nice warm feel to the festive season, but its getting really cold, so wrap up warm people!! ^__^

My quick browse in Pull and Bear....

I really like the dress with the big pockets and the cowel neck at the front, as this can be dressed up or down very easily (£19.99). Wasn't too keen on the pink top/dress as it made me look really big! it was a nice top overall but it wasn't doing it for me =.= The last item which i tried on was the knit which caught my eye. the knit was on the mannequin in the shop floor, not knowing about the back detail with the buttons (and yes you can undo them!) it also has handy pockets at the front **love pockets**. A bit more pricey at £25.99

1 down, 4 in line...

My first interview over! >.< So last thursday i went for an interview at designers Teatum Jones for a work placement. It was quite nerve racking as i didn't know what to expect. I got there and the place was very small, with the two designers working closely together.

The interview process went really well with the designers having a kind and friendly personality. I found out that there were about 5 other students going for the same role and earlier found out that i didnt get through =( But no worries as i have another 3 lined up! Exciting stuff!! ^__^

Interview outfit:: Blazer (New Look £20) :: Dress (Zara £29.99) :: Tights (H&M) :: Boots (Asda £18)
